Tel Aviv
Secure Parking Project
Project overview
Why we did it
In Tel Aviv, a bicycle or scooter is stolen every 18 minutes. Theft is the second biggest deterrent to micro-mobility usage in the city, leading to a lack of trust in secure parking solutions. To address this challenge, the Tel Aviv Municipality sought innovative anti-theft solutions through EIT Urban Mobility’s City RAPTOR project.
Mosa was selected as the winner among leading European startups, securing a €40,000 grant and the support of the Tel Aviv Municipality to conduct a real-world field trial of our smart docking system.
How we did it
Phase 1: On-the-Ground Preparation (3 Weeks)
- Receiving and setting up locks (partner: Chen Ofen)
- Installation at key locations:
- Private site track: Atidim Park
- Public site track: City Hall & Florentine
- Operation run-throughs:
- Installation testing with on-the-ground support staff
- Training sessions on system operation
Phase 2: Field Trial (1 Month)
We conducted a structured field trial across two key environments:
- Private Site: A controlled environment at Atidim Park to test user interactions and system functionality.
- Public Sites: City Hall (5 docks) and Florentine (5 docks) to evaluate security and adoption in real-world conditions.
Phase 3: Post-Trial Insights & Feedback
- User Feedback & Thank You Event: A casual gathering with participants to collect in-person insights and foster discussion.
- Data Collection & Analysis : Comprehensive review of feedback and usage data.
- Findings Shared at Mobility Tomorrow Conference: Initial insights presented to urban mobility stakeholders
What We Achieved
This pilot project allowed us to gain valuable insights into real-world user behavior and security needs. It marked the first live deployment of Mosa’s smart docking system, demonstrating its robust security features and the strong demand for such a solution.
Through user interviews, we uncovered the frustration and concerns of urban cyclists, further validating the potential of our solution to enhance micro-mobility adoption in cities worldwide.
Next Steps
Following the success of this pilot, Mosa is exploring further collaboration with Tel Aviv Municipality and other cities to implement scalable smart docking solutions. Our goal is to make urban cycling safer, more convenient, and an integral part of city infrastructure. We are currently planning a city-wide deployment of secure parking docks in Tel Aviv, expanding our impact to provide long-term security solutions for micro-mobility users. We are also exploring various revenue models, charging a small fee for secure parking, to ensure the scheme benefits users while remaining financially sustainable in the long run.
